Ford Puma review (2024)

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

Be prepared to drive the car quite hard due to lack of power. I’m used to going up hills in 4th gear but sometimes have to drop into 1st as there is little torque in the engine. I’ve always had 4 cylinder engines but never thought having a 3 cylinder would mean such a change in driving style. Eco mode on the motorway is good until you get to a slight hill and then you have to change down a gear, like I said earlier, lots of changes in driving style. The car is better in Sport mode and it’s the first thing I change when I now get into the car (as well as turning off auto stop/start!). The boot is huge and has the box under the boot floor, it’s cavernous!! If you need boot space then I’d definitely take a look. Interior is surprisingly well screwed together for a Ford, no premium materials though compared to other marques in this sector. Seats have massage facility but I find this quite a distraction whilst driving and reserve it now for passengers only. Fuel economy is excellent if you just drive conservatively. I’m averaging 48mpg with a mix of road and motorway driving. But drive it hard and expect around 28. Although don’t drive fast around corners as the body roll is quite bad. Also, avoid going out in the snow, it’s the worst car I’ve ever driven during these conditions, this could be due to the tyres but I had zero confidence every time I went out and chose to stay at home when possible.

How reliable do you find the car?

Only thing I’ve had done is a recall on the rear suspension.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

I traded in my 2016 Focus RS for this due to theft of wheels so needed something less desirable to thieves, that’s why I didn’t get the ST Line. I knew it was a 3 cylinder engine but wasn’t prepared for the change in driving style needed to get upto speed, needs revving quite a lot.
