In their own words

Good build quality, exceptional reliability and lots of space, particularly in the boot with the 'magic seats' configuration. Comfortable for long trips and reasonably frugal, with a refined engine after the first minute or so. Good visibility too, other than broad 'A'-pillars. Slightly firm ride as with most Japanese cars, but not uncomfortably so and only jolts over small ridges. Looks will divide opinion, but I've always loved them, inside and out, from those lovely triangular tailpipes to the holographic dash display to the red 'Start' button. Quick, accurate steering and respectable handling and grip for a nose-heavy diesel. A bit of a 'wolf in sheep's clothing' too, so easy to drive and unassuming tootling around town and the sort of car you'd find reassuringly capable on a cross-country dash in bad weather. But its 250 lbs/ft torque embarrassed many a rival with sportier pretensions on the motorway - relentless 'shove-in-the-back' acceleration, accompanied by a lovely, jolly whistle from the turbo when it kicks-in. All-in-all, a great all-rounder and 'peace of mind' option.

How reliable do you find the car?

Only wear & tear items (1 set rear pads and discs, a couple of tyres and a battery) in 5 years/35,000 miles. Build good too, with an unresolved dashboard buzz around the 1500 rpm-mark the only gripe.
