Kia Soul EV (2023) review

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

The Kia Soul EV exceeds expectations. Our local, Viking Kia dealership took our Petrol Kia Soul in part exchange. The Soul EV has a range of around 285 miles ( although with use of the regenerative ‘paddles’ in warmer weather this range can be exceeded). Heated front seats, and divers’ seat height adjustable, passenger seat adjusts back & forth, head restraints adjust too making for a comfortable ride. 11 speaker Harman media system gives amazing clarity of sound. 2 USB ( 1 rapid) in the front plus Bluetooth phone charger & one usb in the rear, passenger area, keeps everyone happy. Adjustable steering wheel ( height & angle). Plenty of shaped storage space for cups/drinking bottles and more central front console space beneath lifting arm-rest. The standard of trim is of excellent quality, heated steering wheel too. Excellent climate control and blowers for front & rear windshields rapidly remove any condensation.Drivers’ controls, including lights and indicator stalks are easily operated, as are all other controls. Love the Kia media system & GPS as it supports WhatsApp, Apple & Android play. The visual display will show as much, or as little information as you like and is totally interactive. The Soul EV’s 17” alloys are not as noisy as some suggest. And if needs be the torque of the Soul EV’s motor will surprise many. It is quick! But with ‘Eco’ ‘Eco Plus’ & ‘Sport’ modes accompanied with a great representative battery usage display you will soon find the most economical mode to suit your personal driving style. Road holding is terrific, brakes are excellent & well balanced. In summation there is nothing I dislike about the Kia Soul EV. Kias’ seven year warranty covers the battery too. And Viking Kia are to be applauded for their attention to detail. Excellent, five stars!

How reliable do you find the car?

Have owned diesel & petrol versions of the Soul & so part Ex on Soul EV was the obvious next step, as the unique shape of the Soul is appealing.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

A great deal has been said & written about Electric Vehicles. But the charging infrastructure grows by the week, and we prepared for the EV’s arrival by installing a ‘pod point’ 7 kw charger at home. It works perfectly and a typical charge ( from 30% to 100% takes around five hours) although using a 100 kw public charger takes appr 40 minutes.
