Economy
Value
It's a Merc so it's not cheap - however £36k is a good price compared with an X5 or Range Rover.
Costs
Is very thirsty - forget 30mpg, it is more like 18 to 20 - however it is a 2 tonne car.

On the road
Driving
Ride is very good for a 4x4, although doesn't have air suspension. Off road the Merc has a lot more grip and ability than I expected, the electronic 4x4 and traction control sort out the grip - just put your foot down and it goes!
Performance
Goes reasonably well for its size - needs the 4 litre twin turbo diesel engine that the yanks get - hopefully the new model will get it.

Car looks a million dollars - get the 7 spoke alloys and the telite blue paint. Looks less gangster rap than X5 and less prissy then the new Range Rover - has a great deal more presence then Japanese 4x4.
Comfort
Leather seats are great on a long journey - no comfort problems at all.

Comes with immobiliser - central locking locks itself after 40 seconds if you forget!
Service
Great when we bought it - haven't had any dealings with servicing etc yet, however have owned Mercs before and local dealer has always been good.
