• Summary

What does this car say about you?

Some people love the looks & say sporty/classy, some would say 'boy racer'. In any case it's pretty close to the tipping point from one to the other.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Smart looking runaround, it's been well cared for by the previous owner. With a private plate on I don't think many would guess the age or what I paid for it.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes - reliable, economical and comfortable on long journeys.

What are you likely to buy next?

Something a bit newer/fancier (this is a relatively temporary runaround). Another diesel though, or possibly an LPG-converted 6/8-cylinder car. I'd miss the torque now otherwise!

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £1,375

When did you buy the car?

    January 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

Try and get another similar aged small diesel with 70,000 miles for the price!

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Diesel economy but with decent power & torque. I had a Rover 216 previously so I knew how to work on the car as it is the same basic chassis. Doesn't look too bad either with the all round disc brakes and side skirts of the top model.

    What was the dealer like?

Reasonably friendly and happy to answer questions. Wouldn't give much of a discount.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Loud and slightly sluggish around town, with a heavy clutch pedal. Once up to speed the engine noise dies down and the punch from the engine for overtaking makes it relaxing to drive. About as good a motorway car as you can get in the supermini sector. Also has excellent brakes and grip levels, due to the wide 205 section tyres.

    What's it like to park?

Decent visibility at all corners, remotely adjustable electric mirrors.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Just wear and tear items - rear brake pads, front tyre, rear fog light bulb.

What's most practical about your car?

Not too much about the bodyshell (3 door). Probably the engine - torquey, if rough, but returns 45-50mpg all day no matter how it's driven.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

    Bucket half-leather seats. So comfy!
