In their own words

With each passing generation of Minis they seem to evolve from the simple hot hatches to becoming more like small luxury cars. I chose a clubman because I needed the space but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the interior and all the luxury options included. However the downside of this is that this is no longer a sprightly small car but instead has become noticeably heavier and wider so if you don't need the space I would recommend a 3 door hatch instead. If you do need the space then consider stretching to a bigger engine so that the straight line performance matches the "go cart handling" that the salesmen seem to love to bang on about.

This is the newest car that I've owned by quite a few years so don't know if it's just a common problem with new cars in general but compared to my previous cars, the doors are very thick which makes it difficult to get in and out of in tight parking spaces.

I've seen other reviews complaining about difficulty of getting into the boot if parked close to a wall, but having previously owned an estate with a regular tailgate, I don't see the barn doors being any worse than a tailgate for access in this situation.

I chose automatic gearbox. Whilst undoubtably better for city driving, I think next time I would buy a manual instead due to the price difference and put the money saved towards a bigger engine.

To summarise, I would definitely recommend a clubman, but be aware that if you are used to a smaller mini then there is a weight penalty and width penalty associated with upsizing, which can have drawbacks in certain situations.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Surprisingly slow acceleration given the power output but makes up for it with excellent cornering ability.
