In their own words

I bought this as a workhorse that I could have some fun with, as 407s are underrated. It's had some niggles (mostly caused by dodgy garages) and a new clutch/flywheel cost £1100 all in. It does 37mpg on average so not great. Despite its huge size, this is a smooth and noticeably powerful car, probably on the edge of what a FWD of its day can actually use - I've since remapped it and it wheelspins in third gear. Acceleration is extremely aggressive once it gets going. Grip is generally good although good quality tyres are mandatory, as this thing has massive torque - you do not want cheap £30 recut tyres on this one.

The handling never fails to entertain, it really wants to go faster and further than its size and weight allow. It's so self-assured and so smooth in its behaviour that it brings confidence and makes long journeys a pleasure. You will never, ever tire of the performance. As for practicality, it is style over substance with a lesser boot space than some estates and awkward loads are sometimes more difficult to get in and out than expected.

Looks wise, this came with manufacturer's bodykit and it stands out among the humdrum cars in its class. Its looks have aged really well. The estate shape is much more attractive than the saloon. I've always found German cars quite bland and the 407 looks characterful and purposeful next to one.
