Porsche 968 Coupe 1992-
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Has to be a bargain fior the quality of the build and the excellence of the detail from the weight of the clutch to the feel of the brakes

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Fuel economy not bad but expect no more than 25mpg on a run if you use the performance. Must maintain at a specialist so £350 pa or so for an annual service. Uses very little oil. Tyre wear is acceptable but rears would not last much longer than 10000 mil

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Superbly flexible engine makes for rapid progress. The steering feel is second to none. Coupled with good brakes and suspension this is a peach of a drivers car even though it is usually the Club Sport which gets the attention!

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Can be difficult to get off the line quickly, but really flies from 4000 rpm to 6600 red line . 6 gear box means you can always be on song but even from 3000 rpm the torque is impressive

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Can be used every day all the year round and if well maintained up there with the best

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Unlike the US where owners report great interest ion such a rare car there is less interest here where everyone is 911 mad. Some even think that front engine Porsches don't have Porsche engines. But for those in the know this car is a well kept secret

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

The coupe does not have sport suspension so comfort is fine, but this is as sports car so expect the ride to be a bit hard. The seats and the cabin are great for two people and the driving position is excellent

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Immobiliser added, but no sonic alarm if windows smashed. But this means you can leave the sun roof open or off altogether without buying the expensive Porsche vent kit

    Service

    5 out of 5 5.0

This mark relates to the Porsche specialist who services the car as one does not usually deal with the manufacturer with an older car
