  • Summary

    2 out of 5 2.0

What does this car say about you?

Someone who looks at the image of the car rather than the practical things like reliability. Someone who's about to get a nasty shock in their wallet.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They loved it at first, now they all agree what a liability it has become.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, I want a car that doesn't come with something permanently wrong with it, and not being able to take it to be repaired withouit a second mortgage.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Skoda Octavia

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £13,500

When did you buy the car?

    July 2003

Did you get a good deal and why?

No. The 63 point safety check failed to spot a buckled alloy front wheel amongst other faults. Minor scratches appeared on the bodywork between initial inspection and collection. Once off the forecourt, the dealer was only interested in getting money out of you for maintenance.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

Slimy and manipulative. I should have known beteer when I saw 4 salesmen trying to access the manual door lock on the car for which the electronic keys had failed.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

It drives well, the suspension is pretty solid and acceleration is good for a diesel. The bucket seats are very comfortable on a long drive.

    What's it like to park?

Tricky. The back end sticks out a long way and there are some very nasty blind spots, particularly the windscreen pillars.

  • Living with it

    1 out of 5 1.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Everything has gone wrong. From dodgy cardkeys which the dealer cannot fault to an engine which bucks at 1800 rpm. It has never passed an MOT and the last service cost £1600. I have spent £7000 to keep it going over 3 years.

What's most practical about your car?

The boot space is huge and all of the internal furnuiture can be removed to give impressive luggage space.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

I like the type pressure monitors when they are working, but they start to give false readings below 12C.
