Other Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

I don't think it really says anything. Only other vRS drivers will appreciate what this car is like, and everyone else probably thinks it's a boring standard Fabia. And I like the "sleeper" aspect of the car's personality, as noone wants to be left in the dust by a Skoda Fabia.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They like it. My wife LOVES it. You simply can't appreciate it until you've been for a drive in one. I almost completely disregarded this car based on the fact it was a diesel with my previous experiences with diesels. I'm glad I changed my mind and took it for a test drive.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would consider buying another Fabia vRS, but I'm not fond of the new shape or the plastic-y interior of the current Fabia. Rumour has it the new one will have a petrol engine, which makes sense with current fuel prices, but without the torque of the diesel I don't think I'd choose this car over quicker rivals. I'll have to see what they come up with.

What are you likely to buy next?

Another hot hatch, or possibly an Octavia vRS if the Mrs. buys a small car this time around.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £10,000

When did you buy the car?

    November 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

I guess, for the low mileage and age of the car. Probably could have got it cheaper privately, but I prefer the assurances and warranty you get from dealer purchase agreement.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Based on test drive against rival hot/warm hatches in similar price range.

    What was the dealer like?

Typical car-salesman stereotype, but quite friendly and willing to negotiate.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Love it. Feels much quicker than it actually is on paper courtesy of the torque. Pushes you into your seats when accelerating in the midrange. Is supposedly quite nose-heavy and feels somewhat skittish when cornering at high speeds, otherwise the handling is great. Apparently the addition of a rear anti-roll bar tightens things up nicely.

    What's it like to park?

    Easy. Visibility is excellent.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing yet, in the 8 months since I took possession.

What's most practical about your car?

Normally I'd say mpg, but not at the current diesel prices!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Definitely the turbo! And the "secret" storage compartment on the driver's side, which is the perfect size for storing satnav/phone/mp3 player/whatever.
