Skoda Felicia Hatchback 1998-
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Cheap to buy, cost me £400 less than my 1.1 Saxo did, after two accidents and writing the Saxo off! Bargain!

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Parts not dirt cheap any more, but you can D.I.Y service it with no problems. Drinks petrol around town and when driven at over 3500 RPM, but extremely cheap to buy in the first place. Virtually identical to MK2 Golf & costs less to buy for less mileage

    Driving

No Evo 8, as it rolls around the bends like a tree in a hurricane, but grips predictable & safe understeer. You'll be horizontal before it loses grip!

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Reasonable for a 1.3, struggles off at the lights, but once it hits 3500 the torque kicks in and it powers up the well ratioed gearbox.

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not been a problem yet for 1000 miles! (Mileage when bought - 58K) Timing belt needs attention though. Mine misfires slightly when driven below 1800 RPM uphill which may mean mine needs some ignition attention.

In dark blue/ green they become anonymous and many people around here have them as a second car for the shopping. Interests the girls rather than impresses them. Interested if they are asrubbis as their reputation & surprised they arent. That's about it.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

A bit lumpy over speed bumps and the like, but reasonable, poor roads upset the handling slightly, but deals with it better, compared to equivalent priced rivals.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

No immobilisor, flimsy locks (bent key in boot lock the other day) and raised locks allow woven packing plastic to be slid into lift lock pins. Skoda badge is the biggest deterrent.

    Service

    5 out of 5 5.0

    N/A no dealings with manufacturer.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

As noted above, misses occasionally when driven under 1800rpm uphill

    Other

Overall good car for the money. Not amazing, but the does job competently and better than any of its similar priced rivals, except, maybe on equipment spec, but who needs electric windows anyway.
