SsangYong Rexton (2022) review

In their own words

Having owned numerous vehicles, including “premium” Volkswagen Audi Group, and BMW 4x4’s, I can without any reservation say that this is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. To date it is faultless. It is not a ‘sporty’ SUV but it doesn’t pretend to be. However it is an extremely purposeful vehicle (immensely large load capacity!) that has handled some pretty horrendous driving conditions with absolute ease, and after 11 months and 21k miles has performed exceptionally with zero issues. Gone is the somewhat, in my personal view only, weird styling of old Ssangyong models and it is a thoroughly pleasant vehicle to sit in with first rate build quality (and I think it matches if not surpasses the kit and luxury of comparable cars, or those a couple of segments above!). I have been very impressed for the price (and I've had my share of those expensive premium cars sitting in dealerships awaiting warranty repairs!). I purchased this Rexton ,with a bit of trepidation as I had no previous experience of the brand, with the view to it being my longterm vehicle and certainly to date I haven’t been disappointed. Having owned the vehicle for just under a year as my only daily drive, I have been somewhat perplexed by some of the motoring journalists reviews.. I wonder have they actually driven this car? I except its maybe not as ultimately refined as an equivalent JLR product etc, but neither is it agricultural and like for like its almost half the comparative price (and I’m guessing having read owners reviews of other comparable vehicles that I considered mine appears to have a definite edge on the reliability front.. And I have the added comfort of a 7yr warranty..). At the end of the day ‘you pay your money, you take your choice!’ But I would advise that you don’t dismiss out of hand this vehicle purely on its badge alone. It likely as not doesn’t have a badge your neighbours would recognise, but like me it might be a vehicle you’d never previously thought of but in the end really find you like! (In all honestly out of all the cars I've owned over the last 20 odd years this is the first that strangers have actually come up to me to enquire about or just say ‘thats a nice car.. what is it?)
