In their own words

This is my 3rd Outback, having owned the 2010 diesel, 2016 petrol and latest 2019 petrol version, all from new. The professional reviewers hate the CVT auto transmission but I love it. I am also a massive fan of the Eyesight system which gives you adaptive cruise control, auto-braking and lane departure guidance; plus on latest version there is a blind spot. All of these things make motorway driving much safer and more relaxed. Also the rear-view camera and alert to objects out of normal eyesight make a real difference (and I was sceptical about such aids). I checked out Volvos and all this kit comes at a huge extra price (which Volvo owners do not buy judging by the used ones I looked at). Surprised Eyesight not given more credit, it deserves it. It does 42/44 mpg if driven at 70 on motorway, Sat Nav good, now DAB radio, lot of space in the back as well as the front, leather, what is not to like for £31k?? Also I get mine serviced at a local independent garage which is fine and reasonable, no need to trek to the Subaru dealer, they never go wrong. The 2.5l engine has enough power to drive safely at high speed if you need to. But mainly you can't these days because of ubiquitous cameras so you may as well get a car that is hugely popular in the US as our road conditions become more like theirs.
