  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

For the performance, this is excellent value for money. Rev3 GT Turbo still gives 30mpg average, excellent examples can be picked up for £5k.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Likes to eat tyres about 10,000 miles, and fill up with super unleaded. Go for the imports as generally in better condition and parts are same anyway. Insurance for the turbo is certainly more but worth every penny for the drive!

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Rev3 (late 93 onwards), by far the one to go for as handling is much better than the rev 1 and rev 2 models, easy to drive in town traffic and a blast on open roads.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Go for the Rev3 (or younger) GT Turbo, only as an import, and as standard it will take you from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds from 240bhp. It is easily pumped up to 300bhp before needing major part upgrades.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Usual Toyota reliability, none of the ones I have owned have ever let me down

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

Turns both men and womens heads, especially if the rare Carribean Blue with the T-Bar, looks good unmolested

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Standard car pretty good, lots of driver and passenger space for a 2 seater, rear boot space good for weekend away bags. The turbo is lower and stiffer, so it's not as comfortable over bumps, but everything feels in the right place.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Generally have to have CAT 1 system fitted (£300 if not already fitted) to get insured, so as good as it's going to get really.

    Service

    5 out of 5 5.0

Toyota Peterborough, have been friendly and straight with me

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Alternator belt and thermostat are cheap to replace. Not bad as this car has been used as a track and road car for last 40,000 miles!

    Other

Changing front bulbs a bit awkward but certainly do-able.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    Used

Would you buy the same model again?

    Yes

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
