In their own words

I own 2 MR2's currently and have owned 2 others before these. This review is for my 1998 'S' plate UK N/A Revision 5. 175,000 miles. Over 20 years old. Happy to spin up to 7250rpm any time. Does multiple track days a year. On gentle runs it's happy to average 38-40mpg. Doesn't burn any oil, lose any water or have any mechanical issues. Just delivers huge grins day-in, day-out. I sold an AMG Merc to go back to MR2's and driving that isn't automated. I do not regret that decision, so much fun to be had. The N/A isn't fast in a straight line, but so small and light compared to modern cars that braking and cornering are another world of sensation compared to modern stuff. Massive support scene to cater for any budget, no harder to maintain than a Corrola. If you like spannering, surprisingly easy to work on, even the mid-engine bay has access to do all the jobs you need to pretty easily. And pop-up headlights - who doesn't love those?! Though they are like candles unless upgraded. Values are increasing slowly, but a Rev 5 car is hard to lose money on right now (March 2020). T-Bars leak, but there are cheap bodges and expensive fixes available. The engine cover on N/A's lets too much water onto the alternator, so drive often or store under cover. Rust can be an issue as on any 20+ year old car, check sills and arches.
