In their own words

The main attraction that drew me to this car was the mpg. I initially was going to purchase a hatchback but when I visited the showrooms they had this metallic blue tourer in stock, 6 months old 3,600 miles with a price of £15,250 not bad when the list price was £25,500. My requirements were a Elite Nav, 134 bhp, metallic paint, spare wheel. I had tried the Astra J model a few years before and did not like it at all, this model was as different as chalk and cheese. So I purchased it, I have 2 cars, a small petrol Dacia for around town and this diesel Astra for longer runs. The Elite has all the gadgets, leather seats, Satnav, also the Media display(plays films), heated front and rear seats and steering wheel etc etc. One sad point it does not have self retracting wing mirrors these have to be done manually. On its first MOT it failed on the steering column!!!!!! so a new one was fitted under warranty. Its first long run was to France and in an overall distance of around 2,500 miles it displayed an indicated mpg of 76. After a recall for brakes and clutch cylinders it had an EMISSIONS UPDATE to the software, which after the VW affair I was very apprehensive about. But just after it was done I was taken off driving by my doctor so was unable to drive the car. Anyway a year has passed and I am back on the road, I have just done my first distance journey and glad to report that on a 150 mile trip the car displayed a mpg of 74. I have been looking at changing my car to a Jaguar XF but honestly I am reluctant to do this as the car (for its price) is a bargain. Its mileage todate is 14K. Would I buy another only if the price was right (New model Astra Elite Nav Tourer with the extras coming in at around the £27K mark). At that price I'd buy the Jag.
