In their own words

Performance wise, the GTC VXR doesn't disappoint. It's everything you'd expect when purchasing a performance car. While using comfort mode the GTC VXR is actually more comfortable than you'd expect but once in VXR mode it's a completely different animal. Sadly, the poor level of reliability and the poor build quality of the GTC VXR seriously let's it down. After owning my vehicle for 2 1/2 years it almost feels like I'm just waiting for the next thing to go wrong in the car and the bill that comes with it. In comparison, before my GTC VXR I owned a Ford Fiesta ST 07 plate with 128,000 miles and all that I ever had to do was get it serviced and change the brakes. If you look at the GTC VXR from a performance point of view then you can't go wrong but in terms of being fit for use it's an absolute embarrassment on Vauxhall's part.

How reliable do you find the car?

Approx 15200 miles - Passenger side CV joint failure. Approx 17000 miles - Front bumper began to sag and pop out of its clips. Approx 18000 miles - TPMS system failure (sensors had previously been renewed) Approx 19500 miles - Body control module failure. Approx 22000 miles - Body control module failed for a second time, this time on the replacement. Approx 27000 miles - Vehicle would barely select second gear, was jumping out of second gear and stiff going into third. Investigated by two independent mechanics (one of which has been in the trade for almost 40 years) who both answered along the lines of "excessive play in gear linkages, gear selector struggled with second and third even while being moved manually, suspected gear box fault" Paintwork is poor overall - Easily chipped, chips even on the boot lid and spoiler. Issue only occurs on the metal panels because the bumpers are immaculate. Two independent painters and a paint correction specialist described the paintwork as "brittle".

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

It performs fantastically when it's working properly. Sadly, it's hard to make the most out of the car when it spends it's life in and out of the garage.
