• Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

I can't afford something with a bigger engine.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

It's cramped to travel long distances in but has been more reliable than a number of newer and more expensive cars owned by friends. Has done a number of runs of 300+ miles and not missed a beat.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. 1.0 engine needs very little maintenance and can manage about 45-50mpg if you're not in a rush. The car has a decent spec for the price. Does about the same as a newer C1, Aygo, Ka etc. but cheaper and more refined.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Focus, Astra, Golf.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £2,000

When did you buy the car?

    June 2010

Did you get a good deal and why?

Bought privately but recommended by the garage I had my previous car serviced at. They had looked after this car for about 5 years and could vouch for its history and condition etc.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    Cheap to run, cheap insurance.

    What was the dealer like?

    Not bought from a dealer.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

Great around town at speeds less than 40. Often have to drop 1 or 2 gears to get up hills. Very sluggish on motorways. Cruises reasonably well at 60-80mph for a car of its size once up to speed but overtaking can be a challenge. Engine and gears really have to be worked to get anything approaching decent performance out of it which ruins the otherwise good fuel economy.

    What's it like to park?

Very easy, very light steering. C pillars are quite big/obstructive.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Handbrake snapped, easy to replace. No issues with engine/other mechanicals.

What's most practical about your car?

Easy to park. Reasonable space in the front but cramped in the back. Seats fold flat and holds quite a lot for a small car.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Air-con is good for a small car. Electric windows and mirrors are a bonus.
