Vauxhall Mokka Electric review (2023)

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

In January we switched to a one year old Mokka-e Ultimate with 11,000 miles. Up until this point I hadn't really considered an electric car; owing mainly to well publicised range issues. However, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to arrange a test drive. I wasn't fussed as to any particular model or brand but didn't want to exceed a budget of mid teens. At the dealership there was plenty of choice at that budget. We drove a Mokka-e and an MG4. We also looked at VWid3 and Peugeot 2008.
Both test drives were extraordinary in terms of acceleration, quietness and refinement; the Mokka-e especially so, ref the latter two. What swung me in favour of the Mokka-e were the looks - like a 70's Manta, which I loved - and the climate/infotainment controls. These controls are by and large traditional knobs and buttons, as opposed to touch screen in the others. I consider touch screen controls far too distracting, whereas, in the Mokka-e I can make adjustments without taking my eyes off the road ahead. There are other features of the Ultimate which are pretty much common to the rest - heated seats/steering wheel, auto wipers/headlights (headlights really clever anti-dazzle, which I like), back massage feature, adaptive cruise control (which I don't use, but it's there), anti collision, etc.
Of course, it's not all pros, there are cons.
One that is simply baffling - there's no rear-of-cabin illumination. That combined with the dark head lining and tinted rear windows makes it virtually impossible to see into the rear when dark.
Rear leg room is tight.
The boot is not family-friendly. Many other SUV's will have better boot space.
Range in winter is about 80% of claimed - i.e. 160 miles.
Apple car play is not wireless.
Summary.
No regrets.
