Vauxhall Signum 2003-

  • Economy

    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

A lot of car for the money when bought on an ex-demo or pre-registered arrangement otherwise initial depreciation would keep you awake nights! (saved £8k on mine at 5 months old with 4k miles).

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

No bills yet to really allow comment but rating based on long service intervals and suggested costs.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Big car so not for throwing round country lanes but the sports suspension (lowered by 20mm) on the Design spec gives a good compromise between comfort and driver involvement. Great on the motorway where it is completely at home.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Test drove the 2.0T and loved the engine/gearbox setup but decided diesel, while not as quick, was a strong enough performer with the extra economy. Its not rapid (quicker than my Mk4 Golf 'GTI' though) but pulls strongly and 50mpg + is possible.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Again, a bit early to really comment as I've had the car 6 months/8k miles only but no problems at all other than a section of exhaust starting gently knocking the underside somewhere - fixed under warranty. Mechanic said they were trouble free.

If you're a badge snob it's not for you but if you can look past the lack of 'premium brand' and the style suits you its a lot of car. I've had VW's for years so it needed to be good. It might catch on but they're still fairly seldom seen.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Took a bit of time to get the driving position right (seat adjusts 8 ways) but with that sussed its one of the most comfortable cars I've driven which is OK considering its got the sports seats.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Alarms, immobiliser, deadlocks etc.... According to the reviews its pretty good.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Too early as it hasn't had its first service yet but small warranty claim was no problem.
