  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Cheap to buy when you consider all the toys that you get.

    Costs

    2 out of 5 2.0

Vauxhall servicing can be very pricy. Costs a lot in petrol too, as fuel consumption is no better than a 1.8.

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

All Vectras cruise well on the motorway, but more demanding drivers will find the handling a bit like a sailing boat! Suffers badly from understeer.

    Performance

    1 out of 5 1.0

The 1.6 has a serious flat spot at around two thousand on the rev counter, just where you don't need it! (I've driven other 1.6s and they are just as bad).

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    1 out of 5 1.0

My Vectra spent most of it's time at a Vauxhall dealer being repaired. It only has 40,000 miles on it, but it had cost me a small fortune to get it to 40k!

Nice car to look at, esp in SRI form, but hey are as common as muck, and you look like a rep!

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Can't fault this one, comfy seats, and air-con is a dream on hot days. Six foot passengers in the back never had any trouble.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Standard deadlocks are excellent, and insurance companies realise this too.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

It always had a problem with it, Vauxhall fitted a new cam belt at 35,000 miles which then broke after only 3,000 miles. The service was very poor.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

Now on it's third cam belt, also new knock sensor (£150 +), plus much more.

    Other

The steering rack broke after 35,000 miles.
