Value
Bit expensive - buy an import if you can to save about £3k, but excellent car. My second Golf. You can't really go wrong. Good stereo.

Nothing to date. 10k mile service is about £100, 20k service £150.

Driving
Buy one! Little unknown secret is they are actually 170bhp and 0-60 is about 7.3 in a independant test in Diesel magazine. I still get 45mpg driving like mad. Also, mine is a 2003 model, so gets ESP.
Performance
Geez - for a Diesel, it's fast. You can seriously worry loads of other cars and still get very good fuel figures. Buy one then chip it or get propane injection for it if you really want to go faster!!

No problems apart from a slight mumur at 2000rpm in 3rd gear.

Comfort
Leather seats a bit warm in summer, but heated seats are great in winter. It's ok for 300 miles before you need a rest - mine has cruise control - get it!

It's one of the best in its class.

Normally pretty good. I know my local dealer well. Beware of city dealers - they tend to rip you off as they have huge company car users which means they a less competitive.
