Brave or stupid ( or both) as I'd rather buy a car from my brother in law than a used car salesman!
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Most like it, though kids preferred previous car as it had a sunroof and was taller.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes probably, but at a younger age with less miles. As it does most things you would want from a car with few compromises.
What are you likely to buy next?
Not sure, similar or possibly similar with bigger boot and 4wd, or might downsize and run a cheaper supermini. Undecided, depends on finances.

Yes probably, bought from family member so knew history of car.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Always wanted to try a vw golf. Bought from family. Diesel power and economy.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Great, handling and control spot on whether fast or slow. Ride can be firm around town or on poor roads but fine on decent surfaces. Engine can be bit noisy compared to newer diesels. All controls are just right ie gearshift, brakes, steering. Easy but also rewarding to drive. Good visibility to front, less so to rear. Engine plenty power for most situations. No penalty at pumps either really.
What's it like to park?
Fine, easy to judge dimensions actually. Light controls, progressive clutch.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Yes, quite a bit from egr failing, emf failing, intercooler hoses popping off, turbo limp home problems, seized brake calipers, broken springs, boot lock failing, apart from that its been fine!
What's most practical about your car?
Good space in front and back, lots if storage space for bits and pieces, seats quick to fold,.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Decent engine power with economy, climate control, internal lighting, cubbies. Front seats are just right, as are steering wheel, pedals and gear lever. Clutch foot rest.
