In their own words

Overall, the Golf GTE is a very capable car. With regular charging and effective use of the different driving modes (electric, hyrbid, battery maintain, battery charge) it can provide exceptional economy - my model manages to cover approx. 26 miles of my 32 mile commute on electric power and, using the ICE for the remaining distance, it achieves an effective fuel economy of approx. 180 mpg. According to the on board computer, over the last 2,000 miles the car has averaged 95 mpg. The economy is especially impressive considering that the car also doubles as a competent "hot-hatch", with a respectable power output in GTE (sport) mode and satisfying handling dynamics (despite the additional weight from the electric drive system).

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

The car offers a great hybrid powertrain package, but I feel it is sometimes let down slightly by annoyingly little tendencies of the management software. For example, the ICE start/stop is far too aggressive in GTE (sport) mode - which cuts the engine mid corner and restarts on corner exit.
