Great value, reliable car.
Costs
Fuel economy is OK, surprising as it can run on fumes! £10 can get you a fair way.

Nice to drive. Steering not as bad as cars of it's age, bit noisy but sturdy and stable.
Performance
1litre is OK, acceleration a bit of a problem and noisy in high gears. Not hugely agile, but manageable for a small hatch.

Have had almost NO problems with it even with minimal servicing.

Not the sexiest of cars, but if you're looking for a great reliable first car that's nice and easy to maintain, buy one.
Comfort
Nothing special. Dash is OK, heating has trouble in winter. Lots more room than you think, though!

Bad. Locks can be picked (handles are external), no immobiliser or alarm.
Service
VW garages I've had contact with are helpful and friendly, and knowledgeable, however parts are pricey.
