• Summary

What does this car say about you?

Probably boring middle-aged fogey, but performance is anything but & I don't care. People place too much emphasis on perceived image. This is a great car & those who think otherwise are those that havent driven one & believe Volvo's stereotyped image.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Don't know, don't care. Next door likes it I think.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, but want a chipped S60R

What are you likely to buy next?

    S60, S60R

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Didn't buy from a dealer

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,500

When did you buy the car?

    April 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

Had a broken taillight & other minor issues caused by neglect - most easy to solve with a bit of TLC

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Wanted to get married, so had to sell the V70 T5!

    What was the dealer like?

    Private buy

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Vice-free, reasonably compliant suspension remains composed & comfy in any road conditions. Gets bad rap for 'vague steering' but I thing it's great, better than the speed-dependant variably type I had on V70, much more predictable. Good steering lock too.

    What's it like to park?

As good as can get for a large car - do need reverse park sensors though. As above, good steering lock makes parking easy, but inside of tyre on 17" wheels rubs on wheel-arch liners at full lock, but less than V70 with 18"ers

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Throttle body clogged - common fault which makes idle erratic & stalling without warning. Volvo customer services paid for cleaning & software update - but untrustworthy dealership tried to charge 250 pounds! MAF sensor also replaced - Volvo proce @300, eBay 80!

What's most practical about your car?

Good size, fantastic brakes, good NVH, great seats & overall handling - sporty but not bone-jarring like T5

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Steering-wheel mounted cruise control & radio controls are brilliant, sound system is probably best one I've heard - better than V70 though basically the same system, guess smaller cabin space benefits
