Citroen 1994 ZX Hatchback

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

For £300 I wouldn't have done better. Electric windows, sunroof, and surprising handling/performance.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

French cars go wrong: fact. Putting them right can get expensive sometimes.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

It's a fluid handler and the ride was smooth, but she's no Focus (which I replaced her with).

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Shockingly sprightly for a 1.4 (basic) engine in a lower-medium car. Lightweight.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not wholly unreliable, niggling electrical problems, and radiators known fault.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Undoubtedly the worst aspect. For a car based on a 205 and 306 platform, and feels much the same. Why this had to be the plain sister eludes me.

    Comfort

    2 out of 5 2.0

Seats too soft, with little support on longer journeys. Noisy too, but spacious, and I believe I found a way to slide the back-seats - inventive in her day.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Such a cheap-looking and underrated car, no one will want to steal them, which is good, for there is little provision if they do.

    Engine

    Carburretor technology is terrible.
