Value
Don't be tempted by the fusion 1 version, 3 & plus are best, if prices seem steep at local dealer try going for a Ford direct model, ex- Ford management cars low mileage, I bought a fully loaded Fusion plus for 10,300 6 mths old with 4,000 miles.
Costs
Cheap to service, Cheapish to insure, Good on fuel.

On the road
Driving
Very responsive, grips the road well.
Performance
It's not a Ferrari, so don't expect F1 performance, It's just a good runner with a good responsive engine.

Can't see the problem people have with the Fusion, its better looking then the C-Max I think, and the soon to be old style, Focus.
Comfort
Firm but comfortable seating, good adjustments on seats, roomy as a focus, Fusion plus has a ceiling mounted dvd player to keep kids quiet... BIG bonus.

Immobiliser, alarm, codes on all audio stuff.
Service
1st salesman a lemon, better 2nd though, service department quick and thorough.
