Other Mitsubishi Colt (2004 - 2013) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Probably that I am a bit sad. It's an old person's car. But incredibly practical, so I will live with the image and smile to myself!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

I don't expect they have ever even noticed it. I often can't remember what it looks like and lose it in car parks!

Would you buy this car again and why?

Sadly they no longer make the diesel. If I could find another low mileage one in good condition when this one wears out I would not hesitate to buy another.

What are you likely to buy next?

I will keep this one until it expires. Then I will get something silly - perhaps a Jeep Wrangler an old VW campervan or a Hyabusa.

  • Buying experience

    4 out of 5 4.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,000

When did you buy the car?

    April 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Low mileage ex-motability car, pretty much as new. It was the most car of its type for the money. Much better used value than comparable stuff like the Honda Jazz, Renault Modus and Nissan Note.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Small diesel economy but with good performance, automatic gearbox, room for for full size passengers and space to carry a fully assembled mountain bike inside (but not all at the same time, unfortunately!).

    What was the dealer like?

Perfectly reasonable to deal with, unlike most! Batchelor's of Ripon.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Not very exciting. I think of it as a driving appliance. That's not a criticism, just an observation. I get my excitment from the mountain bike I carry in it. It's not the quietest, but OK, what do you expect?

    What's it like to park?

A doddle. Big mirrors, flat back and sides, not much bodywork at the front you can't see.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Have done 25,000 miles in the first 9 months.

What's most practical about your car?

    1. Economy and driveability 2. The interior. Separate rear seats tilt, slide, fold, tumble and come out altogether. front seat folds flat too. More passenger space than my previous Merc e-class and the option to turn it into a small van.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The automatic gearbox. Never use it in manual mode. Unike most autos there is no fuel consumption penalty. Some reports say it is jerky - perhaps so if compared to my old mercedes, but it's as smooth as most drivers can change gear manually.
