  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not cheap, but then everyone knows that. Dont go mad with options on new car but ensure you get the basics.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Reasonable for performance car but not 'cheap'- 3rd year service was £500, previous years £220. No parts costs so far (25k miles) as no major bits have caused problems (1x £5 bulb so far).

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Tight and secure, as everyone knows. The ride is just right on the standard 17"" wheels - any bigger is too stiff for UK roads, same for optional sports suspension. Very practical, even around town.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Can't complain! - scared me when first drove at speed. Always feels safe but need to be sensible in the wet - traction control v.useful in catching back stepping out - saved me twice (drops revs and breaks individual wheels).

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

The essential driving experience has never been compromised - has always run fine and started every time without fail. Small issues have come and gone (air con for me mainly).

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

Always looks good to me - not dated like the BMWs appear to be (even the new ones). It is a classic shape - 25 years from now people may collect it though the Boxster of 2029 will still be around in a similar form, I'm sure.

    Comfort

    1 out of 5 1.0

Seats hurt my back! but my back is strange! As comfortable as anything and adequate room, not cramped as some reviews state and really does have enough space for luggage for 2 or a decent supermarket shop (about 10+ bags!). Would recommend heated seats.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

No issues. Has CAT1 immobiliser and alarm as standard. Most insurance requires a tracker (NavTrak is best) but not all (e.g. Norwich Union) Car re-locks automatically if only boot is opened and shut in case you forget (good feature).

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Local dealer is ok, nothing bad - just lacked some knowledge of the car and didn't investigate all little problems I mentioned. Sales departments can be problematic- get a salesman whom you like.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Reliable as anything. Once noticed surging on a slow, steep drive but never occured again.

    Other

Niggles - my air con loses gas every 4-6 months (refilled by dealer 5 times, only now are they to replace compressor = £600? - I have 4th Year warranty from Porsche = £800) Other bits: Horn replaced, Seat clicking fixed, Blown heated mirror relay.
