Other Subaru Legacy (2003 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    3 out of 5 3.0

What does this car say about you?

That I should have gone to SpecSavers! :) I let heart rule my head with this purchase but managed to convince myself that the fuel consumption would be tolerable.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They like the interior and general look of the car.

Would you buy this car again and why?

No, because the fuel consumption is just too poor.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Possibly a Saab 9-3 TTiD.

  • Buying experience

    3 out of 5 3.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £15,250

When did you buy the car?

    July 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

I didn't manage to negotiate much of a discount but the car was low mileage so I don't think the price was too unreasonable anyway.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    Performance, reliability.

    What was the dealer like?

Dealer was fine to deal with (Sparshatts in Botley), not too pushy after test driving the car.

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

Comfortable and quick on longer journeys but can feel too big and heavy around town sometimes. Gear changes are rarely smooth and the car becomes very jerky at low speeds. Fuel consumption is terrible and I struggle to get anywhere near the claimed 23mpg combined figure.

    What's it like to park?

Not too bad although it's sometimes difficult to gauge where the boot ends.

  • Living with it

    3 out of 5 3.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes, needed a new battery to cure an intermittent beeping from the alarm system on ignition (which hasn't solved the problem) and the clutch needed replacing after only 40k miles. The rubber seal around one of the rear doors had to be refitted as well although this was done free-of-charge.

What's most practical about your car?

Decent sized boot and plenty of room for four adults despite the performance of the car.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The heating element below the windscreen wipers has been brilliant in cold weather and the front-loading CD multi-changer is much better than the one I had in my old Skoda.
