Tesla Model 3 review (2023)

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

My Model 3 was on order via a reservation with Tesla I made approximately two years prior to taking delivery. My only test drive was in a model S, and on the strength of that single drive, I decided to deposit my £1000 and wait! (And wait!) Two years is a long time indeed, but my patience was duly rewarded with my car, one of the first batches to arrive in the U.K. for an August 19 pick up. Delivery day arrived and I made my way to pick up my long awaited wheels. The handover process was fairly easy, they were handing over so many Model 3s it was mad! Anyway the car had a few issues, all minor, and a larger issue with the windscreen, all these issues were noted and remediated quickly. The slowest one was a replacement windscreen (as it was a brand new car no spare windscreens were in the U.K.) that got sorted and all was good! I have been a premium car driver for a few years, my preferred brand being BMW, and if you go from that or any other German brand you would probably feel the Model 3 is a bit low rent in terms of fit and finish. Yes it is a leap in quality compared to the Model S, but if you went straight from a German marque to the Tesla you could be disappointed (in the fit and finish area) but other than that, the Model 3 is YEARS ahead of any car on the road! For me, the main reason for buying the car was the fact that Tesla was Terra-forming the car industry landscape, for the good of the planet, and I wanted to be a (tiny) part of that, prodding the current car auto makers to kill the engine, and help us all move to a much more sustainable model. But the car, it is just a grin-mobile, I love every minute in it. It’s so silent, so powerful, so well planted, so precise and a complete joy to drive. Yes there are issues, the autopilot is a bit unpredictable, but my view was always that this car was part of a automotive journey, with teething problems likely as Tesla developed their AMAZING systems. I only had a two year lease, which sounded a long time at the time, but because of the COVID lockdown has passed in a flash, I only have 8 months left! I would 100% recommend a Model 3, However with the caveat of the above issues.. this is a transitional car, the tech is developing, so you might (will) experience these, but the upside is SO WORTH it! If you want the most advance car in the world, safest in class to protect your family, to give you the giggles every time you sit in it, if you love the reaction from young people who love the brand, it’s for you, if you want a proven brand, you might want to wait a few years or buy a more sedate EV (many available) but personally I like to live dangerously, go buy yourself a Mode 3, you never stop grinning!
