Volkswagen Golf Hatchback (2009 - 2012) 1.4 TSI SE 5d DSG Owner Review

The passenger and luggage space provided in such a limited-length car is remarkable. The performance and economy are excellent, whilst the handling and ride quality are all that can be expected from a small hatchback. Reliability has only been let down by two minor issues. Firstly a faulty sensor indicated a non-existent brake fault, and secondly there were issues with resetting the "next service" indication on the on-board computer. Both were sorted by the main agent within the warranty. The DSG gearbox sometimes judders, especially at low speeds (forward and backwards) on sloping ground - a well documented niggle - otherwise the DSG is excellent. General fit and finish are very good for this price range. The car was a replacement for an extremely reliable Toyota Corolla (bought from new) which gave 8 years’ service. I summarise by saying the model is an excellent value for money package for anyone wanting a comfortable, practical family hatch - I am well satisfied.
