Other Subaru Legacy (2003 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

You appreciate high build quality, exceptional engineering and high reliability, but you don't want a BMW as most of those drivers are to**ers and no one lets them out at junctions. With the Subaru you slip under the radar of Mr Little Britain.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

My family loved the car so much three of them went out and bought it themselves. My neighbours probably think I earn too much. My work colleagues think I'm a boy racer in sheep's clothing.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would absolutely buy this car again. I think most other cars make compromises on value versus quality that the Subaru doesn't. Unfortunately I cannot get this as a company car any longer, as we now have a restricted list.

What are you likely to buy next?

Purely because I can't get another Subaru due to a change in company car policy, my next choices are a Honda CR-V or a Audi A4 Quattro.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £19,800

When did you buy the car?

    August 2004

Did you get a good deal and why?

Bought via my company car scheme, but dealer fitted several optional extras free of charge, saving me money by allowing them to be bought independently.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I wanted a four wheel drive car, but not a large SUV. I was very impressed with the build quality and engineering of the Subaru range

    What was the dealer like?

Exceptionally helpful and friendly. Three other family members have now bought cars from the same dealer

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Lots of power on tap and speed responsive power steering gives genuinely useful road feedback. Overtaking is quick and painless, the aerodynamic body seems largely to ignore crosswinds.

    What's it like to park?

View out the back is good, with sensitive parking sensors, reverse and parallel parking is a doddle. It does have a large back end, so parking without sensors would be considerably more difficult.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with the car, only needing to visit the garage for two non-fault accidents androutine servicing. In 2006 I got rear ended by a negligent driver talkin on his mobile, doing an estimated 30mph more than me. The car sustained £6k worth of damage, but I walked away without a bruise. Very impressive.

What's most practical about your car?

Always starts first time and is very relaxing to drive, you don't feel tired after a long journey. Got a large boot, although the rear seats don't fold.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The constant four wheel drive means muddy roads, rain soaked tarmac and snow pose no threat to your safety, the handling is also accurate and confident.
