In their own words

The mito is a good car, but one that lags behind its competition in terms of capabilities, without providing much of an enthusiastic experience to compensate it. Coming from a DS3, it felt like a worse car in most measurable metrics. Slower yet worse on fuel, larger on the outside yet nowhere near as spacious, its handling was worse but the ride wasn’t really more comfortable, it was noisier and felt considerably less modern, and its complex multiair engine did not provide any of the benefits it was supposed to offer (reduced noise and vibration, better economy, higher performance) It’s not a bad car at all, and it performed its daily driver duty rather well, but it feels like there are better alternatives out there, either more enthusiastic drives or more practical, better thought-out options. Its main argument will therefore be how cheap these are on the 2nd hand market.

How reliable do you find the car?

The car was overall reliable and I did not have any serious trouble over my 20000 miles of ownership. However, it did suffer from several annoying small issues, such as a noisy and sometimes a little daft TCT gearbox (under certain conditions, it would almost stall the car when coming to a stop), petrol smell in the cabin at idle, a rattly wastegate, a drivers seat that would recline on its own, etc.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

It’s a good car, but unlike what its 135hp turbo four and 6 speed dual clutch would suggest, it could hardly be considered sporty. The engine runs out of puff above 5-5500rpm, the gearbox shifts very smoothly and lacks drama, and the chassis is ok but just isn’t that great. As a daily, it’s a little better, but the fuel economy is disappointing, the gearbox has a surprisingly short gearing that makes the car noisy on the highway, and it isn’t very spacious. On the other hand, maintenance is rather cheap, it looks fine and is decently built, and it’s been fairly reliable. I was just expecting a more enthusiastic car. Also, the driving position is not great, especially with the headroom-eating sunroof (which isn’t that great anyway), and the front bumper rubs absolutely everywhere, even when taking speed bumps at less-than-walking pace.
