Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

When I got the car I complained about the headrests being badly positioned, however I got used to driving with the seats reclined a bit more than usual and the problem disappeared. The ride is still a bit jiggly around town and the seats a bit hard if your journey stretches to more than a couple of hours. That said, the car is more spacious than most hatchbacks in this class and the engineering more robust than you might expect for a budget car. Having owned 30 cars in the past, that I usually sold when problems arose, I have kept the i20 as it simply refuses to go wrong. Due to buying the car on the scrappage scheme, and i20s holding their value quite well, the depreciation on this car is the lowest I have ever experienced. This, combined with the superb reliability, means it continues to be a very cheap car to own over an extended period. The perfect used car buy. Not flash, not sporty, but easy to drive, safe and dependable. My only slight regret is that the latest i20 is priced far nearer the market average, whereas in the past this model was a much cheaper alternative to the Vauxhall Corsa/Ford Fiesta etc. This makes it harder to justify buying a new one. However, if you find a low mileage example of the old model, in my experience/opinion it will go on forever.

How reliable do you find the car?

In 8 years of ownership I had a damper replaced under warranty and a new fuse for the radio. Absolutely nothing else has gone wrong with this car which has just had routine maintenance. It is without doubt the most reliable and trouble free car I have ever owned.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

It is surprisingly capable on the motorway, particularly accelerating up to motorway speeds and overtaking, even with just a 1.2 petrol engine. The only complaint is the lack of cruise control as the accelerator pedal is so light your leg can ache from having to apply so little pressure. Having owned the car 8 years that included teaching two teenagers to drive and pass their tests in it, I am impressed with the quality of the engineering. It has also hit some mighty pot holes and remained undamaged unlike many of my neighbours cars that have come to grief on the same roads.
