Much more expensive than the last 323f ever was to buy, but this car is more modern and has a more upmarket feel to it, as well as a higher specification.

    Costs

For a 148bhp/150ps car, group 8 insurance is very low. Fuel economy of about 34.5mpg combined is perfectly acceptable though lower than a Civic Type-S, you don't notice the difference.

Heavier than my old 323, but a better ride and much quieter. It feels very solid, steering is responsive but changing to second gear can be heavy.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

It's certainly quick enough for me. 3rd gear is a good gear to put your foot down in and you are never wanting for more power from the 2.0 engine. It would be nice if it red lined a bit higher, i.e. up to 7000rpm.

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

I hope it will be as reliable as out 323 and Xedos 9, as I have heard that Ford has a greater input in the design of the car. Hopefully it will be ok!

In my opinion, its a fantastic looking car. The 323f always seemed to have a middling image, I could never understand why because it was such a good car. I think the 3 has a higher image than its predecessor. Looks great with 17"" alloys, bodykit & Xenons

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very good ride, an improvement from the 323. Rear headroom is better too. Overall, with such a high level of refinement, this car is a great place to be over long journeys. Interior is modern but it's very dark, almost similar to an old Volkswagen!!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

It has a thatcham cat 1 alarm/immobiliser, but the alarm doesn't seem very loud from what I've heard. I don't know if it has 2 different sounds?

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

It was very impressive, though I know that not all Mazda dealers are

Interior lights (except dashboard) went very dim, almost as though the dimmer switch had been turned down, but it hadn't. I restarted the car and it was fine.
